Wee Ginger Dug Blog... The most important reason why Scotland is closer to independence than it has ever been ... is not merely a mainstream political idea in Scotland, it is the single most important question in Scottish politics around which all other political discussion revolves. That is a remarkable and unprecedented shift in Scottish political discourse. weegingerdug.wordpress.com/2020/03/05/ducks-in-a-row/

SCOTTISH voters back a legal battle with Boris Johnson over indyref2 if he continues to refuse a Section 30 order, a new poll has revealed. -- The National, 8 Feb 2020 www.thenational.scot/news/18221754.scots-back-legal-battle-boris-referendum/ SNP MP Joanna Cherry QC, who led the successful case against Boris Johnson's proroguing the UK Parliament, said a way forward against the “current impasse” could be for Holyrood to pass a bill to hold an advisory referendum. She said: “Having Holyrood pass a bill to hold a referendum could be part of a multi-faceted strategy to move us away from the current impasse and stop the constant and unproductive talk about Section 30 orders and seeking ‘permission’ to act from Westminster. “The balance of legal opinion is that we might well win any legal challenge and I don’t believe that to lose any court challenge mounted in response would set us back any further than where we are just now."
THESE ARE EXCITING TIMES, for if you could glimpse a little of the non-public, background activities going on and the plans being worked I believe it would give hope rather than frustration. This is why we must trust our leaders to do what they do best. The future that Boris Johnson hopes to write for Scotland IS NOT set in stone. There are several routes and strategies to the international acceptance of a successful Scottish independence referendum have been talked about recently. 1) Is to have it accepted by the UK Government. 2) Another is to make a Declaration of Independence and to get support from the international community of nations. The right to hold a referendum, in and of itself, is now within the hands of the Scottish Parliament, but its acceptance has not been legally challenged and confirmed by the UK courts yet. From a technical and historical point-of-view, a representative body of duly elected officials from Scotland like the Scottish MPs, the Scottish Parliament, and/or a Constitutional Convention can declare Scotland's independence either with or without a referendum. Obviously by now, there is a commitment to hold a referendum vote to let the people of Scotland decide. SO... could we hold a "non-binding" referendum to give such a representative body a "mandate" to declare independence. Yes. This is one route of many being discussed. BUT the most direct route will always remain getting a Section 30 order from the UK Prime Minister and/or something similar declared in…

THE UK IS IN A SELF-INFLICTED CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS. With a sad heart we read the writing on the wall. In the face of the coming challenges in 2020, Scotland, now more than ever, we need our leaders to rise to the challenges and meet the requirements upon their character of statesmanship instead of politician. Speaking openly from an historical and political perspective, the public must make use of all peaceful tools of opposition now while they have the opportunity - before such tools are taken away, threatened, or bullied into silence. The aggressive and politically violent path that Boris Johnson is on, in ignoring the voice of Scotland and their democratically elected representatives, this path historically leads to war. It is yet very early, but Johnson has shown his course by his past and current attitudes and actions against the Scottish people. What Westminster gives, it can take away - and does from devolved powers of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Nothing is sacred, even previous acts of the UK Parliament in giving their word/declaration of the powers reserved to Scotland. Boris will be known as the Prime Minister of Dis-unity and Dis-union... The Bully in Number 10 attempts to govern like kings of old. While sitting on his elitist high horse, he tramples on anything and everyone that gets in his way including the constitution, the rule of law, and the demands from the duly-elected representatives of Scotland. Remembering one's history, such bullies had to be put in their…
THE UK IS FACING A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS... after all three devolved parliaments of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland voted against Boris Johnson's EU Withdrawal Bill. A bill that illegally grabs powers specifically reserved to devolved parliaments and introduces for the first time into law that the UK Parliament is sovereign, an idea that could make mute court rulings, and an idea that conflicts directly with Scottish Constitutional Law that the People of Scotland are Sovereign. Ian Blackford, Scottish MP, said the Scottish Parliament would lose 28 devolved powers covering areas such as farming, fishing and the environment. 21-Jan-2020 | The Welsh Assembly votes against Johnson's EU Withdrawal Bill. 21-Jan-2020 | The House of Lords adds 5 amendments to Boris Johnson's EU Withdrawal Bill and sends it back to the House of Commons. One amendment attempts to protect Scottish Devolved Powers by reinforcing the Sewel Convention. Applies also to the devolved parliaments of Wales and Northern Ireland.
